Puzzle Cube
Explore how I designed and created a 3′ x 3′ Puzzle Cube using the letters in my name. (SELVEDIN)
This page shows the essential steps in the engineering design process for the Puzzle Cube.

Starting Out
I was challenged to make a puzzle cube in my Intro-Engineering course in any form I desired with a minimum of 5 pieces and a size of 3 inches by 3 inches.
I thought it would be a good idea to do something more difficult, I decided that I would make a simple cube, but each piece would be a letter that is in my name.
Problems
There were some obvious issues with my idea that I needed to figure out. First would be deciding how I would make such irregular shapes and have them all fit into one piece. Two of the major letters that would eventually be simplified are v, i, and n. Simplifying these two letters allowed me to fit all pieces perfectly into a cube while retaining a general idea of what the letter is supposed to be when it is shown to someone.

The Process
I wanted to keep my design simple while also having a type of interlocking system that would prevent the puzzle from falling apart unless I want it to come apart.
My interlocking system was heavily inspired by Dove Tails that are used in woodwork. Dovetails are easy to use and are inherently very strong when connected.
Current Progress
As of now, the Puzzle does not work as intended. I ran out of time to continue this project and will continue in the future.

Prototype Development
In this stage, I build a prototype using Polylactic Acid on a Ender Printer V2, testing various design elements to ensure they fit a together without issues.

Final Adjustments
After testing the prototype, I made necessary adjustments based on usage and feedback, refining the design for optimal puzzle experience.

Project Completion
At some point I ran out of time to complete this project, but I will startup again eventually.
